Uses: Echinacea is widely known for it's immune boosting properties, which come from alkamides and glycoproteins, as well as additional support from antioxidants. Echinacea is frequently used to stave off colds and flu, and the root can be used as an effective treatment for sore throats and coughs. The Pawnee tribe of Native Americans also used Echinacea to treat headaches. Echinacea may also be used to strengthen the urinary tract.
Serving: 1-2 tsp/day in 8 oz. boiling water. Steep 5-10 minutes @ 212°.

No known contraindications for nursing women, but not recommended for daily use by pregnant women (due to limited study).
Some research suggests Echinacea angustifolia herb and root should not be used in systemic diseases such as tuberculosis, leukosis, collagenosis, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, HIVi nfections, and other autoimmune diseases (based on theoretical considerations and not on any reportsof adverse findings).
The likelihood of Echinacea root preparations causing allergy is very low, but contact dermatitis has been reported from other parts of the plant.
Caution is advisedfor transplant patients taking immunosuppressive drugs; short-term therapy only is suggested.
